Antelope Canyon was formed by erosion of Navajo Sandstone, primarily due because the process of subaerial dan flash flooding.Rainwater, especially during the monsoon season, flow into the basin extends above the Gorges of the gap, which grow quickly and reproduce the sand when it rushes into the narrow passageways. The last flood occurred on October 30, 2006 that lasted 36 hours, and caused the tribal Park Authorities close Lower Antelope Canyon for several months.
